Umpqua National Forest Keeps Office Open Late for People to Review Maps for Travel Management Plan

ROSEBURG, OR – March 19, 2010 – The Umpqua National Forest headquarters will remain open until 7 p.m. on March 30 and April 1 for people to review 16 draft maps associated with the Forest’s travel management plan.

The Forest Service is seeking public comment on its recently released Travel Management Plan Environmental Assessment. The 30-day comment period began on March 16. The Forest Service must receive written comments by April 14.

The document includes a no-action alternative and three action alternatives for designating routes and areas for motor vehicle use on the Umpqua National Forest. The environmental assessment discloses potential environmental effects of designating a system of roads, trails and areas for motorized vehicles.

The environmental assessment and maps for the Travel Management Plan are located online at www.fs.fed.us/r6/umpqua/projects/travel/. The 16 Motor-Vehicle-Use maps associated with the document will be on display in a conference room at the Umpqua National Forest headquarters, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The address is 2900 NW Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. Additional hardcopies of the document and maps are available for review at all ranger district offices on the Forest and at public libraries in Roseburg, Canyonville and Cottage Grove.
