Forest Service Public Workshop for Plan Revision Focuses on Recreation

South Lake Tahoe, CA. --A public workshop will be hosted by the US Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) on December 1, 2008 at Sierra Nevada College, 999 Tahoe Boulevard, Incline Village, Nevada, Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences Building, Room 139. For directions visit: www.sierranevada.edu/index.php?id=210. The workshop will run from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The purpose of the workshop is to obtain public input on the management of recreation opportunities as a part of Forest Plan Revision.

The workshop will begin with a background presentation on the topic area, followed by an opportunity for clarifying questions. The second half of the evening will consist of a facilitated discussion on recreation management strategies. Light refreshments will be served.

Nearly 80 percent of the Lake Tahoe Basin is managed by the Forest Service on behalf of the American public. The LTBMU Forest Plan provides overall direction for these lands. The LTBMU's current plan is 20 years old. While much of it is still relevant, several areas require updating to reflect current conditions and policies, new science and changing technologies. The Forest Service has identified ecosystem restoration, recreation management, land use, and planning and adaptive management as among the key areas requiring revision.

More information on LTBMU forest plan revision is available at www.fs.fed.us/r5/ltbmu/forest-plan/. Please send comments, suggestions or ideas by Friday, December 5, 2008, to the LTBMU Forest Plan Revision Team via email at comments-pacificsouthwest-ltbmu@fs.fed.us or mail to 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.
